The Communications Coordinator is a resource for communications expertise for MCC Manitoba and is responsible for helping to develop provincial communications plans and oversee their coordination and collaborative implementation. This role provides expertise in brand management, digital marketing, advertising and public and media relations. This position includes a strong focus on written content creation and telling stories of impact with the goal of raising the profile of MCC in the province.

This position reports to the Communications & Donor Relations Director and works closely with the Design & Digital Media Associate. Both positions form the communications unit which functions as part of the larger Communications & Donor Relations department (CDR). The communications unit works collaboratively with provincial colleagues from program, social enterprise and CDR, as well as national marcomm network counterparts to achieve organizational objectives.

This is a full-time salaried position with a generous benefits package. General work hours apply with flexibility to travel within the province and to be available for occasional evening, weekend and overnight commitments. Flexibility with a hybrid home/office schedule may be possible.

  • Degree or diploma with a focus on communications or combined equivalent experience will be considered
  • Two or more years of experience in a similar role, with responsibility for creating content, managing projects, and daily workflows
  • Excellent written communications skills with experience writing for different audiences and mediums including web, print, digital
  • Expertise in all aspects of storytelling, from brainstorming ideas to interviewing, writing, editing, and publishing
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Familiarity with website and social media account management, as well as email marketing tools
  • Experience or training related to promotions/marketing
  • Experience or training in media relations
  • Excellent time and project management skills with keen attention to detail
  • Available for occasional evening and weekend work
  • Valid Manitoba driver’s license
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada
Contact/Relationships:
• Collaborates with the Director of Communications and Donor Relations to implement strategic goals and manage an annual communications calendar
• Collaborate with national communications/marketing staff and colleagues from local provincial departments on shared goals and initiatives
• Develop media contacts and maintain relationships
• Work closely with the design & digital media associate and third-party contractors

Supervision:
• Collaborates closely with and some delegation of duties to the design and digital media associate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

Communications Coordination & Content Production – 70%

• Lead in developing, implementing, and overseeing the annual communications plan encompassing the strategic goals of the CDR national network, as well as the priorities of the department and broader organization in collaboration with the communications & donor relations director

• Act as lead for all primary components of use of MCC’s brand provincially including developing key messaging, editorial direction, design and production of provincial materials

• Use analytics tools to measure the effectiveness of digital efforts and facilitate the incorporation of reporting, tracking and data into decision-making

• Identify and coordinate opportunities for storytelling on all aspects of MCC Manitoba’s work

• Produce stories and other written content for various communication media including the website, newsletters, supporter communications, promotional materials, and print publications

• Oversee the production and content for monthly radio program and possible podcast series focused on the local programming of MCC Manitoba

• Support communications requests from other departments as needed and approved



Media & Public Relations – 30%

• Manage existing contacts and build new relationships with key media to secure and grow earned media

• Research and maintain an up-to-date list of media contacts

• Prepare and distribute press releases, briefs and updates for media

• Collaborate closely with other departments and partner organizations to ensure timely, accurate information is available for both media and staff

• In cooperation with the CDR director, act as the organization’s representative with the media, and/or coordinate appearances with appropriate staff and spokespersons

• Work together with provincial staff and thrift network colleagues to ensure proactive preparation for media interviews and to increase awareness of public and media relations field

• Produce speaking notes, key messages and talking points for other staff members as required

• In collaboration with the CDR director, plan, develop and execute internal communication plans consistent with organizational policies and procedures

• Respond to issues management concerns proactively as they emerge and work together with the CDR director to address appropriately

$51,616.00
